Triceratops horridus Onchopristis with large temporal fenestrae andTriceratops horridus was one of the most iconic dinosaurs of the Late Cretaceous , which inhabited what is now North America approximately 68 to 66 million years ago, just before the great extinction that ended the age of the dinosaurs. Its name means "face with three horns," and refers to its most distinctive feature: two large horns above the eyes and a third, shorter one above the nose , accompanied by a wide, bony frill that protected the neck.
